Overview

The GitHub Core Productivity team builds the tools that most of our users use every day. Develops task ownership and a first-hand understanding of a feature, the customer, and how the customer interacts with and uses the feature. Helps to identify data-informed, short-term investment opportunities, evaluate tradeoffs, and prioritize investments in consultation with cross-functional partners for a feature. Helps engage with internal partners, external partners, including early adopting customers, and other key stakeholders to gather input and garner support for product/service vision, strategy, and roadmap for a feature. Develops the competence to define the feature and learns to work with Design teams to connect multiple design factors. Understands how their own feature coordinates with others to perform scenario walkthroughs and thought exercises to identify problems, system friction, and needed contingencies in advance of early customer adoption for a feature. Collaborates with Product Marketing, Business Planning, and Engineering to identify product release criteria, customer acquisition, usage, retention, and monetization strategies, under the We’re looking for a Product Manager with a background in software development to support our frontend platform team.

Responsibilities

  • Own the product strategy and execution roadmap for your area. You will be responsible for specific areas of the product and defining a strategy that aligns with customer needs and GitHub’s goals. You will translate that strategy into an execution plan and a roadmap to achieve both the customer needs and product goals.
  • Represent the customer. You will be the champion and voice of customers in every conversation. You will build direct relationships with customers as well as immersing yourself in customer feedback.
  • Collaborate across teams. Your success will require coordination across multiple teams and domains at GitHub. You will play a critical role creating alignment between core Actions experiences, our compute platform, and the wider GitHub organization, especially our revenue organization.
  • Data-driven decision making. Analyze data for trends and potential customer pain points, and use this to prioritize and inform how to improve the product. Go back to the data when needed to answer questions.
  • Measure success. Own the measures used to define success for your area and align them to department and business objectives. You will define success metrics at the inception of an initiative and track their performance. You will make measures visible to all stakeholders and interpret them into actionable conclusions and new hypotheses to drive future work.
  • Evangelize your product area. You will spend time presenting on your product area and how it fits into broader market trends, both internally and external to GitHub.
  • Work independently. You will be expected to manage your time effectively, make decisions autonomously, and drive progress without continuous oversight, while also knowing when to seek feedback or alignment from your team.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships. Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment, set clear expectations, and manage priorities. You will need to balance the input and interests of multiple teams, customers, and leadership.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A few years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in related field AND experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • A few years experience in frontend development, with hands-on experience using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to clearly communicate and articulate complex technical problems in a simple and easily understanding way.
  • Experience in modern frameworks to advocate for best practices in web development. Strongly empathize with your core developer customers and lead technical conversations with both customers and the developer teams.
  • Experience with web accessibility standards (such as WCAG) ensuring that the products you help build are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.
  • Experience navigating ambiguity, to address complex challenges and adapt quickly to new information or changes in priorities. Identify creative solutions to unblock progress and move initiatives forward.
  • Proven experience shipping products. You have a track record of bringing products from ideation to launch, managing the product life cycle, and ensuring successful delivery to customers.

Compensation Range

The base salary range for this job is GBP £49,200.00 - GBP £91,400.00 /Yr.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
