Role Overview

We are seeking an excellent Developer to learn and participate in the development of our innovative, enterprise class real-time securities trading system. Be a contributor to the design, development and deployment of large-scale distributed financial applications.

This candidate will join our team of dynamic technologists currently responsible for developing and maintaining middle office applications as well as applications which provide integration with various third party systems. The system is mostly written in Python, Oracle PL/SQL, and a bit of C++ running on Linux, with web application frontends written primarily in JavaScript (AngularJS / VUE).

The candidate will be working in a highly collaborative environment. They must have a history of application development, testing automation, support, enhancements and troubleshooting skills.

Role Responsibilities

Development, Architecture, SDLC and Delivery

  • Provide technical oversight of the analysis and design for assigned projects
  • Design, develop, test and oversee production software solutions, including the development of highly complex systems, and modifications to existing systems
  • Be able to communicate the architecture and principles behind a system to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Support the use of preferred planning and prioritisation tooling to capture and track deliveries, identify issues and help with roadmap and iteration planning and prioritisation
  • Ensure the team engages in a well-defined SDLC that supports planning, prioritisation and delivery needs
  • Support the team through help with defining scope and guiding estimation of work to be done by leveraging previous experience
  • Be custodians for target state architecture and best practice within your respective development team
  • Identify opportunities to evolve systems towards target state architecture and direct refactoring and prioritisation to positively influence deliveries

Change, Risk and Issue Management

  • Support team to identify and escalate risks as appropriate
  • Work with the Team Leaders to provide time and resource estimates, identify potential areas of risk and suggest mitigating actions
  • Share complex technical designs or issues with non-technical stakeholders and influence their decision making where necessary
  • Identify tools and methodologies to improve the effectiveness of the development process
  • Assist and facilitate prioritisation of software defects and enhancements
  • Manage risks and issues effectively with timely escalation to the project stakeholders

Experience / Competences

Essential

  • In-depth knowledge of Python with relevant programming experience.
  • Web programming knowledge/experience on any web frameworks but preferably VUE or AngularJS
  • Strong object-oriented and distributed systems design and methodology.
  • Solid knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Motivated self-starter; strong "take-charge" attitude.
  • Excellent follow through and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of various relational databases.

Desired

  • Experience with Oracle PL/SQL.
  • Experience in CI/CD methodologies/processes
  • Knowledge of event-driven (publish/subscribe) programming models.
  • Knowledge / Experience on cloud based infrastructure (e.g. Kubernetes / AWS)
